Canada's Trudeau government out of touch and now irrelevant

Neoliberalism is finding its voice within the government's seeking to strengthen their position in the international community post Covid. There is, more or less, a new "Iron Curtain" separating east from west. As China is regaining it's footing after reopening their economy after the pandemic, there is an opportunity for economies to reestablish trade ties with the mainland. After years of China's "Wolf warrior" approach to diplomacy, Xi Jinping  is fostering an image of collectivity and peace to attract nation states back to China for trade deals. China is also trying to bolster its signature "Built and Road Initiative" to further strengthen its ideal as the second strongest economy and position itself to surpass the United States as the preeminent international economy and currency.

Therefore, a 21st c form of neoliberalism has emerged that has impacted Europe, in particular.  America is affected, too, though, the U.S. may be exhibiting its usual brand of nationalism that may have fragments of neoliberalism and other ideologies that are part of a vibrant, multicultural society with longstanding rights such as the   Second Amendment right to bear arms.  America is rightly criticized with the rise of gun violence against African Americans and all racial groups, while Donald Trump's influence on supporters such as Proud Boys that are far right, male and neo fascist and are part of Trump's radical views.

The neoliberal view of a broader appeal of realism as a militaristic response does not hold. The U.S. purview as a champion of human rights contrasts with  China's, Russia's, Saudi's et al is not  what drives America's annual defense budget towards  800 million USD. There are great financial benefits to  being a superpower;  China is trying to usurp American hegemony through Xi's newfound dovish attitude after reopening the economy. French President Emmanuel Macron fell for his foil as did European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on a recent visit to Beijing. Macron is positioning France as a moderate between China and the U.S.  As Macron emerged from Beijing with new trade deals that his entourage secured, he is sure not to inflame Xi with any pro Taiwanese independence chatter.

Former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien visited China in 1994 with 300 business leaders, that secured  the group approximately 9 billion in trade dollars. This, despite the tragedy  of the Tiananmen Square massacre that occurred five years earlier in 1989. Canadian Liberals in government take a shining to China for trade and current Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is facing calls for inquiries into  Chinese meddling in Canadian elections in 2019 and 2021. Trudeau seems uninterested in managing another political firestorm that will imperil his minority government. In authoritarian liberal fashion, eight months after his party was elected to a second consecutive minority government, Trudeau struck a deal with the opposition New Democratic Party for their support to stay in power.  Thus, Trudeau and Jagmeet Singh's accord negated   5,742,605 Conservative Party votes, 1, 301, 831 Bloc Quebecois votes, 844, 122 PPC votes (Peoples Party Canada,) 398,755 Green Party votes -  not to mention an unverified number of the 3,036, 030 New Democrat voters that did not approve of the Liberal - NDP accord.

In 2015, Trudeau ran on a platform that included a proposed change to the electoral system incorporating proportional representation. Now, he cannot even honour the wishes of 48.6% of actual voters. Trudeau is out of touch and this is further illustrated by Canada's plan to  admit 1.45  million immigrants over the next three years. This, despite Statistics Canada indicating that, typical homelessness in Canada amounts to 235,000 people on an annual basis. Canadians, for their own well being cannot afford another  term by Justin Trudeau's authoritarian Liberals. The CPC (Communist Party of China) is empowering a narrow vision that a few in the west ascribe to and that provides no legitimacy or rights to the rules - based international order.
