The Titan tragedy and the need for more preventative measures

The disaster of the Titan submersible raises a few questions for travel to locations that are risky. Notably, why did this vessel not have any type of black box surveillance device on board in the event of an accident that would provide future intelligence?

Air travel on commercial airliner’s require Black Boxes in the event of a crash. In the Titan's case, there is nothing to guide the understanding of what happened to the vessel.

In addition, a Black Box surveillance unit would provide legal ramifications for the host operator to defend themselves against accusations regarding inappropriate security measures  vis a vis  the amount of damages that would be paid out , while simultaneously   litigation can also magnify those  relative to the findings depending on the degree of culpability of the host.

Currently, Black Box surveillance units  are mandatory in Europe on all new motor vehicles for civilian purposes. Certain nation - states are turning off their transponders to avoid detection, such as illegal Chinese fishing fleets, Iran that may be avoiding sanctions, and others involved in illegal smuggling.

Mostly, they are most common in commercial, air, travel, and for  defence purposes. But, let’s make this a common security measure whether for adventure, daily travel in our automobiles or for defence purposes.

Forensics science currently provides clues into why humans make certain decisions that impact others in a multitude of examples: harmful or positively. With the advent of ChatGPT,  that if used in a developed format,  might save lives by resolving tragic issues before they take place. To enable this technology is problematic for underwater use, and needs development through NSA and other intelligence agencies.

OceanGate is surely facing a legal challenge that will render it inoperable.

From an ethical perspective, why are we encroaching on a sacred burial ground that is the wreck of the Titanic?
