The beginning of the end of Justin Trudeau's disastrous activist policies has arrived
Justin Trudeau announced his resignation today as Liberal leader and eventually Prime Minister of Canada. The announcement created fervour once again as President- Elect Donald Trump keeps summoning the notion of Canada as a 51st state of the United States. In the age of nation-states i.e. China and Russia trampling on others territorial integrity and sovereignty, the leader of the Democratic country with its hold on soft power seems a bit trite.
Trudeau has failed immeasurably since he was elected in 2015 and I would say is the worst Prime Minister since 1867 – the founding of Canada as a confederation. Canadians are overtaxed, many live in tents, and approximately 2,000,000 Canadians (March 2024) visited food banks in one given month. New working Canadians no longer have the dream of home ownership and the rental prices have gone exceedingly high since Trudeau has been in office. Immigration figures were extraordinarily high in excess of 1 million (2023-2024 according to Statistics Canada) for one year. Trudeau has since backtracked and said immigration is too high and is scaling back those numbers. Those numbers in light of the amount of Canadians living in tents and in poverty needs to be scaled back to 50,000 per year for a five-year period until we get many of those folks off the street. That will help alleviate the crime problem that Trudeau has created with his "catch and release" policy on crime. Canadians were going to have the general election in October, however, Trudeau has announced that Gov. Gen. Mary Simon twill prorogue Parliament until March 24. The liberals will be defeated in a non-confidence motion shortly thereafter and a general election will take place in May. Trudeau's "far left" activist agenda will take many years for Canada to dig out from under.
Opposition leader of the Conservative Party of Canada – Pierre Poilievre, leading in recent polls by as much as 20 points over the Liberals is headed for a majority government. Trudeau's resignation is an attempt to stop the bleeding so the new leader will have of reasonable presence in opposition. The problem is that the mismanagement of Canada by the Liberal Party that includes a doubling of the national debt (1.32 Trillion CDN) will take the new leader at least one term to get under control. The Financial Post reported on September 24,2024 that "Over the next 15 years, debt interest charges will cost taxpayers $847 billion, according to PBO projections. That’s more than $18,000 for every Canadian that the Post stated amounts to 1 Billion every week to service the debt. <https://financialpost.com/opinion/trudeau-doubled-down-debt,>
Another major concern for Polievre are the policy initiatives that a Trump Administration brings to Canadian politics with his threat of 25% tariffs and his rhetoric about Canada becoming the United States 51st state. Indeed, Canada has problems with gun violence. However, Canada most definitely does not need or want an open gun policy (Second Amendment) that is tearing apart the United States.
Therefore, Pierre Poilievre must begin to "act" as a Deputy Prime Minister right now in the face of Donald Trump's threats to Canadian democracy. He must show strong leadership immediately, despite not knowing who his opponent will be when the liberals select a new leader. He can gain a lot of popularity and respect by being a vocal opponent of Donald Trump right now while devising a policy platform to manage the Trump threat.
